学院2005年获凝聚态物理硕士学位授予权，2007年开始招收培养硕士研究生，2010年在湖南省研究生培养过程质量评估中获得优秀，2010获得物理学一级硕士学位授予权，自2012年起，培养理论物理、凝聚态物理、光学和无线电物理硕士研究生，物理学为省级重点专业和吉首大学重点学科。
The college received a master's degree of condensed matter physics in 2005, began to recruit and train postgraduate students since 2007, obtained excellent evaluation in 2010 during the postgraduate training process of Hunan province, get the first level discipline master of physics in 2010, and train theoretical physics, condensed matter physics, optics and radio physics graduate students since 2012, furthermore, physics is the key specialty of Hunan province and key discipline of Jishou university.
